Our Efforts to Humanise the School Environment

We continuously work on humanizing our school environment through the following practices:

Meditation

Every School Day begins and ends with Meditation. This kickstarts a happy and fresh beginning to the day and ensures a stress free and peaceful dispersal. By this unique School initiative, we aim to raise the Emotional and Spiritual quotient of the learners, these are the prerequisite components in preparing students NOT for WORK but for LIFE ahead. With Meditation as a part of the School curriculum and as a daily classroom activity, we endeavour to hone learners’ intrapersonal intelligence and make them more resilient and emotionally stable individuals who can contribute towards a healthy school environment and society. The school is also a certified ‘Vipassana Centre’ and conducts residential Meditation Camps for parents, teachers and students of Classes VI to VIII.

Havan

We believe in celebrating every child. Every learner’s birthday is celebrated with a ‘Havan’.In the senior classes, learners’ take blessings of God by participating in a havan before the commencement of their Board Exams. This practice keeps the learners rooted to their culture and its practices.

Saying Thank you To God

At DLF, we believe in the ideology of ‘Give to Get’ and encourage Delfites to share sweets on their birthday with the less privileged children of ‘Apney Foundation’- a foundation for the less privileged children, under the care of the school. This is our way of teaching the learners to say ‘Thank you ‘ to God.

Greetings for the Day

As a general practice, when the young learners enter their ‘Thinkrooms’, they are encouraged to choose their greeting for the day. This reaffirms our belief that each one of them is unique, and has a right to make decisions early in their lives.

The ‘Essential Conversations’ to build Socio-Emotional Learning

Our focus is on building a Socio-Emotional learning environment in every classroom that is conducive to learning. Integrating Socio Emotional Learning (SEL) in every class enables the learners’ to comprehend and feel their emotions completely, and in return demonstrate empathy for others. These learned behaviours prepare the learners to make positive and responsible decisions; create frameworks to achieve their goals, and build positive relationships with others. Hence, every class begins with an essential conversation to nurture the attitudes of our learners and offer them an opportunity to voice their emotions in the presence of their peers and teachers. To cater to their socio-emotional needs, there is a dedicated counsellor for learners of every class.

Goodwill Piggy Bank

An Attitude of Gratitude goes beyond good manners — it’s a mindset and a lifestyle at DLF Public School. We encourage the learners to practice an attitude of gratitude through the Goodwill Piggy Bank - a beautiful initiative that defines and personalizes goodness by allowing learners to deposit appreciation chits to laud the acts of goodness of their peers; and the support staff.

Students’ Social Responsibility

Success at DLF is measured not only in terms of what learners make out of their lives, but also in terms of their usefulness to others. Many opportunities are given to the learners so that they can exercise their power to bring change and thereby better the world around them. The theme ‘Be the Change’ cascades down right from the Senior to the Junior classes through a series of thoughtful events and campaigns involving matters that concern the environment, science, social responsibility, and technology, by engaging students in meaningful real-life projects that can better the world. The endeavor is to create awareness and appreciation in every Delfite for NOT ONLY their RIGHTS but for their DUTY also. Few of the noteworthy initiatives that are worth mentioning are-

  • Compassionate Ghaziabad Initiative – an initiative spearheaded by the school alumni to create a kinder and more humane Ghaziabad city. It works in association with an International organistaion the ‘Charter for Compassion’ on its five prominent strands:
    • An aggressive water conservation campaign – ‘Wait…Stop…Think! Before the Drop Shrinks’ to create a water conscious community.
    • Annadaan – an initiative that ensures that no one sleeps hungry in the city. A ‘Happy Fridge’ has been installed near the school gate which acts as a Food ATM to cater to the hunger pangs of the less privileged that are in close vicinity and within 200 meters of the periphery of the school.
    • Clean Air for Ghaziabad - an initiative to bring in clean air to the city through concrete students’ action. Learners have become a part of a BEST(Breathe Easy Stay Tough) CLUB in the school that is initiated in partnership with the Lung Care Foundation – an NGO that works to spread awareness about air pollution and a better lung health for all.
    • Dhyan-a-thon – an initiative to raise the happiness quotient of the city through meditation.
    • Walkable Ghaziabad – an initiative that envisions a pedestrian friendly city with an aim to create more walkable spaces in the city, works in collaboration with the Ghaziabad Development Authority
  • Partnership with NGOs like ‘Goonj’ – a Voice an effort – Every year the outgoing batches generously hand down their school uniforms for the less privileged and the learners across the school willingly part with their not-in-use belongings like books, stationery, etc, to contribute for those in need.

Smilometer – What’s your Happiness Quotient Today?

To help the learners identify their feelings, teachers use a Smilometer to help the young learners identify their emotions (joy, sadness, fine, not sure, etc) as well as the emotions of their peers. This makes them emotionally intelligent and also improves their emotional quotient.
